Canada - Banff - Calgary 26.12. 2014 - 2.1. 2015

This year we stayed for Christmas at home in California, but the day after we left for some snow fun. We flew to Canada. Most of our holiday we spent in Banff national park. Even thought it was quite cold, we were quite lucky and the weather was great. We did some hiking (not enough snow for snowshoeing), cross country skiing, ice skating and dog sledding. In the end of the week we went to Calgary, but except for seeing the Olympic park, there was not much to do in the city. So for our last full day, we drove back to Banff.

Tento rok jsme zustali na vanoce doma v Kalifornii, ale hned den pote jsme se vydali za snehem. Leteli jsme do Kanady. Vetsinu nasi dovolene jsme ztravili v narodnim parku Banff. I kdyz byla docela zima, tak jsme meli stesti na pocasi. Udalali jsme par vyslapu (na sneznice nebylo dost snehu), projeli se na bezkach, zabruslili jsme si a i jsme se projeli ve psim zprezeni. Na konci tydne jsme jeli do Calgary, ale krome Olympijskeho parku tady moc k videni nebylo. A tak jsme nas posledni den jeli zpet do Banff.

Czech Christmas dinner and Christmas party 20. - 21. 12. 2014

December is always busy month, this year it felt even busier, so we had to squeeze both of our traditional holidays celebration to one weekend. On Saturday we hosted our annual Czech Christmas dinner. This year I decided to switch carp for another white fish, and bread crumbs for almonds. It was success! It was nice to see everybody again!
On Sunday we invited our non-Czech friends for a party. We played our traditional games - guessing in a stocking, opening presents in oven mittens, white elephant exchange and pictionary. It was fun evening.

Prosinec je vzdy mesic nabity aktivitami, ale tento rok byl jeste vice precpanejsi nez obvykle. Museli jsme tak dat do jednoho vikendu nase tradicni vecirky. V sobotu jsme pozvali kamarady na kazdorocni ceskou vanocni veceri. Tento rok jsem se rozhodla vymenit kapra za jinou bilou rybu a strouhanku za mandle. Byl to uspech! Bylo moc pekne zase vsechny videt.
V nedeli jsme pozvali dalsi kamarady na vecirek. Hrali jsme nase tradicni hry - hadani co je v puncose,  otevirani darku ve chnapkach, rozbalovani a "kradeni" darku a hadani obrazku. Byl to super vecer.

Adrienne and Mark's wedding 12. - 14. 12. 2014

Eric and I were invited for Eric's cousin wedding in Colorado. Adrienne and Mark choose for they special day the date 12-13-14. The wedding was at the family's beautiful big house, so we stayed at close by Bed and Breakfast. We arrived on Friday just for the rehearsal dinner. On Saturday we went for a short hike and then drove to the house to help with the last minute preparation. The ceremony started with the sunset. It was beautiful wedding! It was nice to see the family, since we were not coming for Christmas. On Sunday we flew back home.

Eric a ja jsem byli pozvnani na svatbu Ericovi sesternice v Coloradu. Adrienne a Mark si vybrali pro svuj vyznamny den datum 12-13-14 (13. Prosince, 2014). Svatba byla v rodinnem prekrasnem vylkem dome, a tak jsme byli ubytovani v nedalekem penzionu. Prijeli jsme v patek na zkusebni veceri. V sobotu rano jsme si zasli na kratky vyslap a pak jsem jeli do domu abychom pomohli s poslednimi pripravami. Obrad zacal pri zapadu slunce. Byla to prekrasna svatba! Jelikoz tento rok neprijedeme na vanoce, tak bylo moc pekne se videt s rodinou. V nedeli jsme leteli zpet domu.

New homemade storage bed 30.11. 2014

Eric and I decided to give ourselves a king size bed for Christmas. We started to look around, but we didn't see anything we liked. We wanted to be able to use the space under the bed for a storage also. Then we found a type of bed that we liked, but at one place they made it in queen size only, in the other place the bed with shipping was for about $1000. Solution came when I run into a instruction for a bed on Youtube and Eric adjusted it to our needs. We bought wood in Home Depot, had it cut there, and in one afternoon Eric built it. Meanwhile we were waiting for shocks, we bought a new mattress. To finish the bed with the last piece took a few hours. Now we are enjoying the extra space on bed and under bed.

Eric a ja jsme se rozhodli si dat k vanocum velkou postel. Zacali jsme se se poohlizet, ale nevideli jsme nic, co by se nam libilo. Chteli jsme mit take prostor pod posteli pro ukladani veci. Pak jsme nasli typ postele, ktera se nam libila, ale v jednom obchode ji meli jen v mensi velikosti, a v druhem postel i s postovnim stala kolem $1000. Reseni se naslo, kdyz jsem narazila na navod na postaveni postele na Youtube a Eric jej predelal k nasim potrebam. Drevo jsme koupili v Home Depot, tam nam ho i narezali, a behem jednoho dne Eric postel postavil. Mezitim co jsme cekali na zvedaky, koupili jsme novou madraci. Na dokonceni potele stacilo par hodin. Ted si uz uzivame vice mista na i pod posteli.

Yosemite - Thanksgiving 27. - 29. 11. 2014

This was a second year in a row when we went to Yosemite for Thanksgiving. We stayed at a heated tent in the Curry village, but for Thanksgiving dinner we went to Ahwahnee hotel. That place has just an amazing atmosphere! On Friday we took the Four mile (4.6 miles) trail up to Glacier point. The weather was beautiful and we could enjoy being back at the place of our wedding again. We planned to see movie about Ansel Adams and maybe going ice skating in the evening, but in the end we ended up at Curry village common room by their fireplace. Before we left for home on Saturday, we went for a walk around the valley with a photography group. We ended up by Lower Yosemite falls, which were almost dry. We followed many other people and walked closer for a better view.

Tento rok byl druhy v rade, kdy jsme jeli do Yosemite na den Dikuvzdani. Ubytovani jsme byli ve vyhrivanych stanech v Curry village, ale na slavnostni veceri jsme si zasli do hotelu Ahwahnee. To misto ma uzasnou atmosferu! V patek jsme se vydali po Ctyrmilove ceste (4.6 mili) na Glacier point. Pocasi bylo nadherne a tak jsme si mohli uzit mista, kde jsme se brali. Vecer jsme planovali si zajit na film o fotografovi Ansel Adams, nebo si jit zabruslit, ale skoncili jsme nakonec ve spolecenske mistnosti v Curry village u krbu. Nez jsme v sobotu jeli domu, zasli jsme si na prochazku kolem udoli se skupinou fotografu. Zkoncili jsme u dolnich Yosemitskych vodopadu, ktere byly temer vyschle. Nasledovali jsme ostani lidi a zasli jsme si k nim dal pro lepsi vyhled.

Yosemite - Young Lakes 4. - 5. 10. 2014

Our friend Phil is usually busy over the summer, so if we want to do any trip together we have to go in the fall. This backpacking trip in October didn't feel like fall trip at all. The temperature was in high 80 F! On the other hand, the area wasn't too busy and we felt like we have Young lakes to ourselves.

Nas kamarad Phil je vetsinou pres leto hodne vytizeny a tak kdyz chceme usporadat spolecny vylet, musime pockat na podzim. Tento vylet v rijnu ale jako podzimni nevypadal. Teplota byla az ke 30 C! Na druhou stranu v oblasti nebylo mnoho lidi a my jsme meli jezera Young skoro jen pro sebe. FOTKY

Boundary Waters 30. 8. - 7. 9. 2014

Trip to Boundary Waters in Minnesota was little bit different trip than we usually do. Minnesota is called state of 10000 lakes and we had a chance to explore very small part of them. We spent about 6 days in canoes on water close to Canadian border. It wasn't backpacking trip by any means, we did  a lot of paddling, but also carrying our canoe and bags for parts that wasn't passable on water. Our bags were quite heavy, so note for possible next time - pack light! We had a few days with some rain, but overall the weather was great. Even mosquitoes weren't that bad, but don't ask Eric about it, they liked him the best!

Vylet do Boundary Waters v Minnesote byl trochu jiny nez nase obvykle vylety. Minnesota je nazyvana statem 10000 jezer a my jsme meli sanci prozkoumat jejich malou cast. Stravili jsme 6 dni v kanojich na vode pobliz Kanadskych hranic. Toto urcite nebyl vylet kde jsme nosili batohy na zadech, hodne jsme padlovali, ale take jsme prenaseli nase lode a batohy pres mista, ktera po vode nesla prevezt. Nase batohy byly pomerne tezke, tak poznamka pro priste - balit na lehko! Meli jsme par dni, kdy nam prselo, ale jinak pocasi vyslo pekne. I komari tak nestipali, i kdyz neptejte se Erica na to, komari jej meli nejradsi!
