Czech Republic 25. - 30. 6. 2013

We left for the Czech republic on Monday, just two days after our wedding in Yosemite. We arrived to Prague on Tuesday evening and checked in to a hotel near Prague castle. Wednesday and Thursday we spent walking around Prague - Prague castle, Karl's bridge, Old town square, Petrin, etc. On Friday we took bus to Hodonin with short stop in Brno to visit my aunt in hospital. On Saturday we had Czech part of our wedding. Most of my family and friends came to Boretice, small village near Hodonin and from 2 pm we all celebrated with good wine and food. Most of us stayed over the night in near by hotel. On Sunday morning we said by to my family and drove back to Hodonin. It was nice afternoon so Eric and I went for short walk around the town. In the evening we went out for dinner - my mom, sister, Michal, Eric and I. On Monday morning we took train back to Prague and flew to Italy for our honeymoon.

Do Cech jsme odleteli v pondeli, jen dva dny po nasi svatbe v Yosemitech. Do Prahy jsme prileteli v utery vecer a ubytovali jsme se v hotelu pobliz prazskeho hradu. Stredu a ctvrtek jsme stravili prochazemin Prahy - prazsky hrad, Karluv mos, Staromestske namesti, Petrin, atd. V patek jsme jeli autobusem do Hodonina, po ceste jsme se zastavili v Brne navstivit tetu v nemocnici. V sobotu jsme meli ceskou cast nasi svatby. Vetina rodiny a kamaradu prijela do Boretic, male vesnice pobliz Hodonina a od 14 hodin jsme vsichni oslavovali dobrym vinem a jidlem. Vetsina z nas zustala pres noc v blizkem hotelu. V nedeli jsme se vsichni rozloucili a odjeli jsme zpet do Hodonina. Bylo pekne odpoledne tak jsme se s Ericem vypravili na prochazku po Hodonine. Vecer jsme si zasli na veceri - mamka, Katka, Michal, Eric a ja. V pondeli rano jsme pak vlakem odjeli zpet do Prahy a pak odleteli na nasi svatebni cestu do Italie.

Yosemite Wedding - 22. 6. 2013

We (Eric, I and both moms) left for Yosemite Thursday morning. We had a meeting with a banquet manager around 3 pm to discuss the details about our reception and then we assembled and prepared various pieces for our reception decoration. At 6 pm we went to Curry village for pizza dinner and met up with other guests who arrived earlier (Karen, Roger, Elaine, Jeanette, Jamsheed, Laurie, Geoffrey and David).

On Saturday morning we went for breakfast at Yosemite lodge and then we had till 1 pm to get ready. The wedding dress and Eric's shirt needed little bit of ironing which my mom took care off. The longest part took my hair, I did it by myself with Eric's help. Around 12:30 David came and started to take photos of us getting ready in our final stage. We met everybody around 1:30 by Yosemite lodge reception. Bus took us first to Tunnel view where we stopped for photos and then to Glacier point. We arrived a little bit earlier then we had our ceremony permit, so we had time to relax in the bus for a while. Ceremony was at the Glacier point amphitheater, our friend Josh was our officiant, and friend Phil played on his guitar for our ceremony. Eric's aunt Elaine and my friend Amy perform readings. After we read our vows and said our "I do" we took a lot of photos with just us and everybody. We were warned about possible bad summer traffic to the Yosemite valley, so we left about 1 hour earlier then we planned. Traffic wasn't bad at all and we arrived early for our reception. This way people had time to refresh and relax a little bit. 

We started our reception by two Czech wedding traditions - broken plate that Eric and I together cleaned up and vodka/water shots. After dinner, David took us for evening photo session in the valley. When we got back we cut our wedding cake and had our first dance. Then we just enjoyed the end of great day with all our family and friends.

Eric, ja a obe maminky jsme vyrazili do Yosemite ve ctvrtek rano. Meli jsme schuzku s manazerem hostin kolem 15h abychom probrali detaili nasi oslavy a pak jsme dali dohromady ruzne casti naseho ozdobeni pro hostinu. V 18 h jsme jeli na pizzu do Curry village, kde jsme se potkali s dalsimi hosty, kteri prijeli drive (Karen, Roger, Elaine, Jeanette, Jamsheed, Laurie, Geoffrey and David). 

V sobotu rano jsem sli na snidani do Yosemite lodge a pak jsme meli asi do 13 h cas na pripravu. Svatebni saty a Ericova kosile potrebovaly trochu prezehlit o coz se postarala moje maminka. Nejdelsi dobu zabrala priprava ucesu, cesala jsem se sama s Ericovou pomoci. Kolem 12:30 prisel David a zacal fotit nasi pripravu v konecne fazi. S vsemi ostatnimi hosty jsme se potkali v 13:30 h u recepce v Yosemite lodge. Autobusem jsme nejdrive jeli k Tunnel view, kde jsem se zatavili na foceni a pak na Glacier point. Prijeli jsme o neco drive nez nam zacinalo povoleni na obrad a tak jsme meli cas na maly odpocinek v autobuse. Obrad byl v amfiteatru na Glacier point, nas kamarad Josh byl nas oddavajici  a kamarad Phil nam hral na kytaru pri obradu. Ericova teta Elaine a kamaradka Amy nam precetli neco. Pote co jsem si rekli sve slibi a sve "Ano" nastalo foceni mnoha fotek jen s nami a pak s nasimi hosty. Byli jsme varovani pred moznymi zacpami na silnici z duvodu letniho zvyseneho provozu a tak jsem odjeli asi o hodinu drive nez jsme puvodne planovali. Silnice byli ale volne a tak jsem prijeli drive na nasi hostinu. Hoste meli alespon cas si trochu odpocinout a pripravit se na dalsi cast.

Nasi hostinu jsme zacali dvema ceskymi tradicemi - rozbitym talirem pro stesti, ktery jsme museli s Ericem sami uklidit a pak vodka/voda panakem. Po veceri nas David vzal do udoli na vecerni foceni. Kdyz jsme se vratili nakrojili jsme nas dort a poprve zatancovali. Pak jsme si jen uzivali konec uzasneho dne s rodinou a kamarady.

San Francisco - Napa - Wedding preparations 7. - 21. 6. 2013

My mom arrived about 2 weeks before our wedding. She has been in California before, but I still tried to go for a few trips - Santa Cruz, about twice to San Francisco and Napa valley. With wedding coming up soon there wasn't really time for anything else. Mom was also helped us a lot by baking Moravian wedding pastries and other snacks for the wedding.

Maminka prijela asi 2 tydny pred nasi svatbou. Byla uz predtim v Kalifornii, ale i tak jsem se ji snazila vzit na nejake vylety - do Santa Cruz, asi dvakrat do San Franciska a do Napa valley. Jelikoz byla ale svatba v nedohlednu, tak na dalsi vetsi vylety nebyl cas. Maminka take hodne pomohla s pecenim moravskych svatebnich kolacku a dalsimi chutovkami na svatbu.

Granite Lake - Emigrant wilderness 25. - 27. 5. 2013

With our wedding coming up in less than a month we didn't even think that we will go backpacking this weekend. On the other hand I really missed going to mountains and since we were done with the big part of our planning we decided to go. Emigrant wilderness was easy choice - relatively close to our home, the permits don't have quota and the scenery is very close to those you find in Yosemite. We, Carine, Sheila, Eric and I, hiked on the trail to Bear lake, but Bear lake is very popular destination and it was quite crowded, so we went off trail and continued to Granite lake. We stayed there two nights, the second day exploring the surroundings and having lazy afternoon and evening. We saw only one group at the lake and that was the night we arrived otherwise we were on our own.

Jelikoz nase svatba mela byt za mene nez jeden mesic, ani jsme si nemysleli, ze pujdeme backpakovat tento vikend. Na druhou stranu me moc chybely hory a jelikoz jsme byli hotovi s vetsinou duleziteho planovani, tak jsme se rozhodli jit. Emigrant wilderness byla jednoducha volba - je to pomerne blizko z domu, povoleni nemaji limit a vyhledy jsou velice podobne tem co najdete v Yosemitech. Carine, Sheila, Eric a ja jsme sli po vyznacene ceste k Bear lake, ale toto jezero je velice popularni a tak bylo kolem nej hodne lidi. Tak jsme vyrazili mimo znacenou cestu az k Granite lake. Tady jsem zutali dve noci, druhy den jsme jen prozkoumavali okoli a uzivali si klidneho odpoledne a vecera. Za celou dobu jsme videli jen jednu skupinu u jezera a to bylo tu noc co jsme tam prisli, jinak jsme byli sami.

Wildflower Triatlon 4. - 5. 5. 2013

I am not sure when I started to think about doing a triatlon, but I knew that if I don't sign up for one, I will never start to train properly. So sometime in the fall I managed to persuade Eric to sign up for Wildflower triatlon in May and we could start to train... and then we got engaged and started with wedding preparation so the training went down and then Eric got injured and training went down even more... I was just hoping that 1500 m swim, 40 km bike ride and 10 km run is not that much, and I should be able to do it even with not much training. The part I was afraid of the most was the swim, I trained in pool and only once I went for swim in a lake. I also signed up for tri on lake so I don't have to deal with ocean water, but the wind the day of the race was so strong that it felt like in the ocean, it wasn't my best swim, but it was the first time I swam such a distance without any stopping. I like biking, but not so much on steep downhill, I don't like going too fast. The course had quite a few hills and again strong wind didn't help me feel safe on the bike. The run was the really fun part of the race. I know I would like to sign up for another race, I enjoyed it, but I think I found out that I am mostly runner.

Nejsem si jista, kdy jsem zacala premyslet o triatlonu, ale vedela jsem, ze pokud se na nejaky neprihlasim, tak nikdy nezacnu poradne trenovat. Nekdy napodzim se me podarilo presvedcit Erica a prihlasili jsem se na Wildflower triatlon v kvetnu a mohli jsme zacit s treninkem... a pak jsem se zasnoubili a zacali pripravovat svatbu a trenik povolil a pak se Eric zranil a trenink povolil jeste vice... Ja jsem jed doufala, ze uplavat 1500 m, zajet na kole 40 km a zabehnout 10 km neni tak moc a ze bych to mela zvladnout i kdyz nebudu moc trenovat. Cast, ze ktere jsem mela nevetsi strach bylo plavani, trenovala jsem v bazenu a jen jednou jsem si zasla zaplavat na jezero. Take jsem si vybrala triatlon na jezere, abych se nemusela potykat s oceanem, ale v den zavodu byl takovy vichr, ze to pripominalo ocean. Nebylo to me nejlepsi plavani, ale bylo to poprve, co jsem zaplavala takovou vzdalenost bez odpocinku. Rada jezdim nakole, ale ne moc rada z prudkych kopcu, nerada jedu moc rychle. Trasa zavodu mela pomerne hodne kopcu a opet silny vitr nepomohl tomu, ze jsem se necitila na kole moc bezpecne. Beh byl posledni nejprijemnejsi casti. Vim, ze se budu chtit zapsat na dalsi zavod, uzila jsem si to, ale myslim, ze jsem hlavne bezec.

Bradley Hut 27. - 28

Eric helped with cleaning Sierra club in the fall and for that he managed to get us reservation for Bradley hut. Seven of us met on Saturday morning and took 5 mile hike on dirt road to the hut. Normally we should walk on snow, but this winter there was almost no snow left. We reached the hut around noon. Later we were joined by another group of 3. A few people went for short hike, but otherwise we spent our afternoon just talking and relaxing. It was hot weekend and the temperature didn't go too low so we didn't even care that there was no wood left in the hut. The next morning we left after breakfast.

Eric pomahal s uklidem chaty pro Sierra club na podzim a diky tomu se mu podarilo zajistit nam chatu Bradley hut. Sedm nas vyrazilo v sobotu rano na 8 km vyslap po prasne silnici k chate. Normalne bychom sli po snehu, ale tuto zimu skoro zadny nezbyl. K chate jsme dorazili kolem poledne. Pozdeji se k nam pripojila skupina 3 lidi. Par lidi slo na kratky vyslap, ale jinak jsem stravily odpoledne povidanim si a odpocivanim. Byl horky vikend a teplota moc neklesla a tak nam ani nevadilo, ze nezbylo zadne drevo v chate. Pristi rano po snidani jsem odesli zpet.

Robbs hut 30.- 31. 3. 2013

Trip to Robbs hut was one of the trips that Josh organized. The hut was in Eldorado wilderness near Lake Tahoe and since the hike to the hut was only about 3 miles and on road we left the bay area on Saturday morning. The forecast predicted showers, but we managed to get to the hut before any rain started. The hut was small, but nice and we spent our afternoon just relaxing. When we woke up the second morning the view from the hut changed completely. It was snowing over night and we had nice view of everything under snow. After breakfast we packed and found our way back. Luckily the snow wasn't very deep since we didn't bring our snowshoes. :)

Vylet na chatku Robbs byl jeden z vyletu, ktery zorganizoval Josh. Chata byla v oblasti Eldorado pobliz jezera Tahoe jelikoz vyslap k chate byl jen 5 km a jeste k tomu po ceste, vyjeli jsme z domu az v sobotu rano. Predpoved pocaci hlasila prehanky, ale nam se podarilo se do chaty dostat pred prichodem deste. Chatka byla mala, ale utulna a my jsme stravili odpoledne jen lenosenim. Kdyz jsme se rano probudili vyhled se nam uplne zmenil. Pres noc snezilo a tak jsme meli pred nama vse pod snehem. Po snidani jsem se zabalili a sesli zpet. Nastesti snih nebyl moc hluboky, protoze jsme si zapomeli sneznice :)
