Peter Grubb Hut 5.-6.5.2012

Peter Grubb hut is another Sierra Club hut in the Sierra Nevada mountains. I was lucky that I was invite to join Josh's trip to this hut. We drove on Friday up to the mountains and spent the night at Clair Tappaan Lodge. On Saturday we met other people in the group and 10 of us left for quite short (about 3.5 miles) hike to Peter Grubb hut. Since we arrived quite early, we decided to go for hike to Castle Peak (9 109 ft). Before we left one other friend arrived and we finalized out number to 11. After we got back from nice afternoon hike, we enjoyed the evening in the hut. On Sunday we packed and cleaned the hut, but before we left, we went for another short hike around the valley. We also decided to take little bit longer but more beautiful trail back to the cars.

Horska chata Peter Grubb je jednou s chat Sierra Club v horach Sierra Nevada. Mela jsem to stesti, ze jsem byla pozvana Joshem abych se pridala ke skupine co sla do teto chaty. Do hor jsme vyjeli jsme uz v patek a pres noc jsme zustali v Clair Tappaan Lodge. V sobotu jsme se potkali se zbytkem skupiny a 10 nas vyrazilo na pomerne kratkou turu (asi 5.6 km) k horske chate Peter Grubb. Jelikoz jsme dorazili pomerne brzy, rozhodli jsem se pro vyslap na Castle Peak (2776 m). Predtim nez jsme vyrazili dalsi kamarad prisel a tak nas bylo 11. Pote co jsme se vratili zpet, uzivali jsme si vecera v chate. V nedeli rano jsme se zabalili a uklidili, ale nez jsem odesli, vyrazili jsme na kratkou prochazku kolem udoli. Zpatky k autum jsme sli delsi ale mnohem krasnejsi cestou.

Elkhorn Slough Kayaking 29.4. 2012

I am going this summer to Alaska kayaking in Glacier bay. Since I haven't been really kayaking much before I thought that it would be good idea to practice a little bit. A friend recommended a place Elkhorn Slough, place between Santa Cruz and Monterey with a lot of wildlife to see, so Eric and I reserved two single kayaks and went kayaking. It was very nice day, even though quite chilly. We spent about 3 hours on the water, watching sea lions, otters, and other animals. After we got out of water we went for late lunch to Phil's fish market.

V lete jedu na Aljasku projizdet Glacier Bay na kajacich. Jelikoz nemam moc s kajaky zkusenost, tak jsem si myslela, ze by bylo dobre trochu se zacvicit. Kamarad doporucil misto mezi Santa Cruz a Monterey zvane Elkhorn Slough, kde je mozne videt pomerne hodne zivocichu, a tak jsme si s Ericem zarezervovali dva kajaky a vyrazili. Byl to moc pekny den, i kdyz byla trochu zima. Na vode jsme asi 3 hodiny pozorovali lachtany, vydry a jine zivocichy. Pote jsme si dali obed v Phil fish market.  FOTKY

Yosemite - Snowcreek cabin 21.-22.4.2012

I don't think that I will ever turn down invitation for trip to Yosemite... a few weeks ago Josh asked me if I would be interested to join trip to one not very well known cabin in Yosemite. The only catch was that we had to climb from from the valley floor (4000 ft) up to 7 500 ft with heavy backpack and then the second day back. It was quite strenuous hike and we were all tired, but the views were worth it. We shared the cabin with a few backcountry skiers but for sleeping arrangement we (Vera, Joe, Josh, Eric and I) had own room. Sunday morning we started by climbing even a little bit higher to Mt. Watkins 8 500 ft for a beautiful views. Then we packed our bags and almost ran all the way downhill back to valley. We rewarded ourselves with pizza and ice cream!

Nemyslim si, ze bych byla nekdy schopna odmitnout pozvani na vylet do Yosemite... pred par tydny se me Josh zeptal, jestli bych se chtela pridat k vyslapu k jedne ne priliz zname chate v Yosemitech. Jedinny "hacek" byl v tom, ze jsme museli vyjit z Yosemite valley 1200 m do vysky kolem 2280 m s tezkymi batohy a pak druhy den opet zpet. Byl to docela namahavy vyslap a vsichni jsme byli vecer unavani, ale vyhledy staly za to! O chatku jsme se delili s nekolika lyzari ale na spani jsme (Vera, Joe, Josh, Eric and I) meli nas vlastni pokoj. V nedeli jsme si nejdrive vybehli jeste vyse na Mt. Watkins 2590 m abychom meli lepsi vyhled do udoli. Pote jsme se zabalili a sebehli dolu zpatky do udoli. Jako odmenu jsem si dali zmrzlinu.

Ludlow Hut 24. - 25. 3. 2012

Ludlow hut is one of the Sierra club huts and when Josh asked me if I would like to join him and other friends for weekend trip I didn't hesitate and said yes! We drove to area near Lake Tahoe on Friday night. On Saturday morning we drove to the trail head and after figuring out parking we left around noon for our 7 mile hike to Ludlow hut. The weather was nice despite forecast for the weekend. We didn't have problem to find the hut and we arrived around 4 pm. The rest of afternoon and evening we spent by eating, drinking, talking and having fun. On Sunday morning we woke up to light snowing, but before we eat our breakfast and cleaned the hut the sun was out again. Our journey back was even faster than to the hut and we ended great weekend by having lunch in Truckee.

Chata Ludlow je jednou z chat patrici Sierra club a kdyz se me Josh zeptal, jestli bych se chtela pridat k dalsim kamaradum na vikendovy vylet ani chvilku jsem nevahala a souhlasila. V patek jsme prespali kousek od Lake Tahoe a v sobotu jsme odjeli k mistu odkud se vychazelo. Museli jsme trochu vyresit parkovani ale kolem poledne jsme vyrazili asi na 11 km vyslap k Ludlow hut. Pocasi nam vyslo i pres neprizivou predpoved pocasi. Nemeli jsme zadny problem s najitim chtky a kolem 16 hodiny jsme k ni dorazili. Zbytek odpoledne a vecera jsme stravili jezenim, pitim, povidanim a uzivanim si vyletu. V nedeli rano jsme se probudili do mirneho snezeni, ale nez jsme se nasnidali a uklidili tak na nas uz zase svitilo slunicko. Cesta zpatky ubehla jeste rychleji nez cesta tam a tak jsme vylet zakoncili obedem v Truckee.

Snowcamping - Crocker point

This year winter hasn't looked like a winter at all, but we went for three day snowcamping at Yosemite NP anyway. We went to Dewey point first for the view and then a little bit further to Crocker point to spend two nights there. The snow cover was really poor, we practically didn't need snowshoes at all! The first night nobody build any snow shelter, but we found a place for a kitchen and built nice kitchen with bar and table for playing cards. The second day we went for short hike to Stanford point and after that a few people had nap, read, relax, played cards and build quinzee! On Sunday we left quite early, even though one hour was taken from our weekend because the daylight saving started!

Tento rok zima vubec nevypadala jako zima, ale i tak jsme se vydali na tri denni zimni kempovani do narodniho parku Yosemite. Nejdrive jsem sli na Dewey point podivat se na nadherny vyhled, pak jeste kousek dal na Crocker point, kde jsme zustali dve noci. Snehova pokryvka byla tak mala, ze jsme vpodstate nepotrebovali sneznice! Prvni noc nikdo nestavel pristresi ze snehu, ale nasli jsme alespon misto se snehem, kde jsme postavili kuchyn s barem a hernim stolem. Druhy den jsme nejdrive sli na Stanford point a pak par lidi odpocivalo, cetlo si, relaxovalo, hralo karty a stavelo pristresi ze snehu. V nedeli jsme vyrazili zpet docela brzy, i presto, ze nam vzali hodinu z vikendu, protoze se menil cas!

Royal Gorge 3. - 4. 3. 2012

Cross country skiing wasn't my favorite activity when I was a child, somehow now I prefer it over downhill skiing. When Bay area backpacking buddies announced a cabin trip I didn't have to think twice to sign up. 12 of us stayed at cabin near Royal Gorge, resort for cross country skiing. This is one thing that I am having problem to adjust to actually. Back at home cross country skiing was just like hiking in the winter with skis, here it was more like exercise and we had to pay to use the trail. Everybody got quite tired after a few hours skiing and after big dinner we all went to sleep quite early. The next day we went for short snowshoeing trip and cleaned up the cabin. Since we were passing Czech restaurant in Concord on our way home we made a stop for dinner there also.

Jako dite jsem lyzovani na bezkach moc rada nemela, ted najednou jim dam prednost pred sjezdovkami. Kdyz jeden z online meetupu poradal vylet na chatu na hory, nemusela jsem dvakrat premyslet a hned jsem se zapsala. 12 nas bylo na chate blizko Royal Gorge, coz je stredisko s trasami na bezky. Toto je jedna z veci, na kterou mam problem si zvyknout. Doma se slo na bezky jako na vyslap jen ze to bylo v zime a jelo se na bezkach, tady to je vice jako cviceni a musi se platit za pouzivani cest. Kadeho par hodin lyzovani unavilo a tak jsme vsichni po velke veceri sli brzo spat. Druhy den jsem si udelali kratky vylet na sneznicich a uklidili chatu. Jelikoz jsme jeli po ceste domu kolem ceske restaurace v Concordu, nemohli jsme se nezastavit na veceri.

Snowcamping with group 6

Last year I took snowcamping course with Sierra Club and it was really fun! This year I went again but as an assistant leader for group 6. We had a quite small group, and with 3 people who couldn't come we ended up with number 13. Also 6 out of 9 students were my friends or friends of my friends, so it was double fun. We went to the Boreal area near Lake Tahoe. This winter didn't bring much snow so far, but we managed to find a place where almost every student made snow trench. The weather was nice also so everybody had a great time! Let just hope that by next trip we will get more snow so we can build snow caves!

Minuly rok jsem prosla super kurzem zimniho kempovani se Sirra club. Tento rok jsem se vydala znovu, ale tentokrat jako asistent vedouciho skupiny 6. Meli jsem pomerne malou skupinu, 3 lidi nemohli prijit a tak nas bylo celkem 13. K tomu navic 6 z 9 studentu byli moji kamaradi a nebo kamaradi kamaradu, tak ze sranda byla dvojnasobna. Sli jsme do oblasti Boreal pobliz Lake Tahoe. Letosni zima neprinesla zatim zadnou velkou snehovou nadilku, ale i tak se nam podarilo najit misto, kde temer kazky student vykopal snehovy zakop. Pocasi take spolupracovalo a tak si to kazdy uzival. Jen ted doufejme, ze do pristiho vyletu napadne vice snehu abychom mohli vykopat snehovou jeskyni!
